Why do you use Aspartame? Is it
safe?
Aspartame is a sugar substitute used to deliver sweetness
and enhance flavour duration in products.
The ingredient Aspartame has been safely used for over 25
years. It is one of the most rigorously tested food additives
in history and is proven to be safe.
The Wrigley Company uses only those ingredients that have
been approved by both national and international food authorities.
These independent bodies are established to protect the health
of consumers and Aspartame has been given the approval of
FSANZ (Food Standards Australia New Zealand). It is based
on this approval that we are confident of its safety for use
in our chewing gum products.

What is Phenylketonuria?
Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a rare metabolic disorder that
results when the Phenylketonuria gene is inherited from
both parents.
|
|
| |
|
 |
|
| |
|
Why is the Phenylketonurics advisory
label displayed on packaging?
A small percentage of individuals are born with this rare
hereditary disorder. They are unable to metabolise phenylalanine
adequately and need to control their intake of this amino
acid from all food sources.
As a regulatory requirement food products containing Aspartame
are labelled as such to alert these consumers of the presence
of Phenylalanine.
Individuals who have PKU are aware of it. All infants in Australia
and New Zealand are screened at birth. |
